Courtney Rafael grew up in Elon, North Carolina, and is passionate about creating a safe, welcoming space where individuals of all ages feel heard, understood, and supported. She holds degrees in History and Special Education, along with a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. Courtney has experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, adults, and families in the outpatient therapy setting.

Courtney has a special passion for working with children and frequently incorporates play therapy techniques into her work. Her therapy space may include a sand tray, toys, art, games, and plenty of creativity and energy! She believes that play can provide children with a meaningful way to express emotions, process experiences, build confidence, and develop healthy coping skills.

Courtney has completed numerous trainings in play therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She also incorporates cognitive behavioral techniques into her work and enjoys helping clients recognize their strengths, develop practical coping skills, and work toward their goals.

Above all, Courtney believes that therapy should be individualized. There is no single approach that works for everyone, and she strives to meet each client where they are while creating a supportive environment that encourages growth, self-discovery, and reaching their full potential. Whether working with a young child, teenager, adult, or family, Courtney aims to make therapy a space where clients feel safe to be themselves and empowered to create meaningful change.
